Published by the sons of the Gaon, R. Leib and R. Avraham, with the assistance of R. Menachem Mendel of Shklov. On the title page, there appears the signature of R. Eliezer Landau, (partially cut out) as well as his initials in number of places. Additionally there are stamps, of various members of the Landau family. R. Eliezer Landau (1805-1883) was born in Vilna to a distinguished family. Following his marriage to a granddaughter of R. Binyamin, Chief Rabbi of Horodna, he settled in Horodna, where he became known as a great Talmid Chochom, as well as a dedicated activist on behalf of the local community. He spent many years writing a commentary to the Bi’ur HaGra on Shulchan Aruch titled Damesek Eliezer, which was published in Vilna in 1868 and remains a classic until today.
