Letter signed by R. Isser Yehuda Unterman, Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, to the Agudas HaRabbonim of New York, regarding a Get (divorce).
R. Isser Yehuda Unterman (1886-1976), was born in Brisk and at the age of 12 was chosen to join a select group of students to establish the Maltch Yeshiva under R. Zalman Sender Kahana-Schapiro. He then went on to learn in the Mir Yeshiva before going to Grodno and becoming a foremost student of R. Shimon Shkop. Following his marriage, he studied in the Kollel of Volozhin and received Semicha from R. Refoel Shapiro. After serving as a Rav in Europe, in 1923, R. Isser Yehuda was appointed as Rav of Liverpool where he had an important impact on the community and played a vital part in raising funds for the impoverished Yeshivos in Lithuania. In 1946, following the passing of R. Amiel, he was appointed as Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv. In 1964, he was appointed Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel.

ר’ איסר יהודה אונטרמן (תרמ”ו- תשל”ו, 1886-1976), נולד בבריסק ובהיותו בן 12 שנים נבחר להצטרף קבוצת תלמידים נבחרת ולייסד את ישיבת מאלץ, בהנהגת ר’ זלמן סנדר כהנא שפירא. משם המשיך לישיבות מיר וגרודנא בה התקרב ביותר לר’ שמעון שקאפ. אחר נישואיו למד בכולל וואלוז’ין וקיבל סמיכה מר’ רפאל שפירא. כיהן כרב בקהילות שונות באירופה, ובשנת תרפ”ג 1923, נתמנה לרבה של ליברפול. היתה לו השפעה רבה על הקהילה שם ואף סייע רבות בגיוס הכספים לישיבות ליטא הנצרכות.
בשנת תש”ו 1946, עם פטירתו של ר’ עמיאל, נתמנה לרבה הראשי של תל אביב, ובתשכ”ד 1964 לרבה הראשי של מדינת ישראל.
