Letter regarding a charity matter signed by R. Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik (1903-1993), famed Rosh Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchanan.
R. Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik (1903-1993), was born in Pruzhana to his father R. Moshe, son of R. Chaim Brisker. He grew up in the town of Chaslovitch, where his father was Rav and studied primarily under his father. He also studied Maseches Brochos together with his grandfather R. Chaim. From a young age he was known as an Illui. At the age of 22, he began studying philosophy and other topics in the University of Berlin. In 1932, he immigrated to the United States, serving as a Rav in Boston until his passing. In addition to being active in Kashrus in Boston, “the Rav”, as he was known, established the Maimonides School, which was revolutionary in its time. In 1939, he established a European-style Yeshiva called Heichal Rabbeinu Chaim HaLevi, where he was later joined by R. Michel Feinstein. Following the passing of his father in 1941, R. Yosef Dov succeeded him as Rosh Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchanan, which he led until his passing.

מכתב בענייני צדקה עם חתימתו של ר’ יוסף דב הלוי סאלאוויצ’יק (תרס”ג- תשנ”ג, 1903-1993), ראש הישיבה הנודע של ישיבת רבינו יצחק אלחנן.
ר’ יוסף דב הלוי סאלאוויצ’יק (תרס”ג- תשנ”ג, 1903-1993), נולד בפרוזנא לאביו- ר’ משה, בנו של ר’ חיים בריסקער. גדל בעיר צ’סלוביץ, בה כיהן אביו כרב, ואף היה תלמידו המובהק של אביו. הוא גם למד מסכת ברכות בחברותא עם סביו, ר’ חיים. מגיל צעיר נודע כעילוי, ומגיל 22 החל לומד פילוסופיה ושאר מקצועות באוניברסיטת ברלין. בשנת תרצ”ב 1932, עבר לארצות הברית וכיהן כרב בבוסטון עד פטירתו. נוסף למעורבותו ופעילותו בענף הכשרות בבוסטון, “הרב”- כך כונה- גם הקים את בית הספר מיימונידס, שהיה מהפכני בתקופתו. בשנת תרצ”ט 1939, ייסד ישיבה בסגנון אירופאי בשם היכל רבינו חיים הלוי, אשר לימים הצטרף אליו שם ר’ מיכל פיינשטיין. עם פטירת אביו בשנת תש”א 1941, ירש ר’ יוסף דב את מקומו כראש ישיבת רבינו יצחק אלחנן, וכיהן במשרה זו עד פטירתו.
