Unique autograph letter to R. Shmuel Greineman (brother-in-law of the Chazon Ish). The Brisker Rav writes that a few months earlier he had received money from a benefactor by the name of Mr. Moskowitz, but he does not know what the exact purpose of the donation was. He therefore implores R. Greineman to attempt to reach him by telephone, or another means, to find out what the money was intended for. Concluding with warm blessings for a good year. The letter is indicative of the Brisker Rav’s concern and stringency particularly regarding monetary matters.
R. Yitzchak Zev HaLevi Soloveitchik (1886-1959), was of son of R. Chaim HaLevi Soloveitchik. Primarily a disciple of his father, he was renowned from a young age for his brilliant mind coupled with outstanding diligence and great piety. He succeeded his father as Rav of Brisk where in addition to his rabbinical duties he taught a small group of exceptional talmidim. Following his miraculous escape from Europe during the Holocaust, he lived in Yerushalayim where he taught Torah to his sons and a small group of outstanding talmidim. Recognized as the one of the preeminent Torah leaders of his era, he was held in awe by his rabbinical contemporaries as well as by the general public.

מכתב אוטוגרפי ייחודי לר’ שמואל גריינמן (גיסו של החזון אי”ש). הבריסקער רב כותב כי מספר חודשים קודם לכן קיבל סכום כסף מנדיב בשם מר מושקוביץ, אולם הוא אינו יודע אל נכון מה מטרתו. אי לכך, הוא ממנה את הר’ גריינמן להשתדל להשיגו, בין בטלפון, בין באופן אחר, ולברר את ייעוד התרומה. הרב חותם בברכות לבביות לשנה טובה. ממכתב זה אנו למדים על החמרתו וזהירותו של הרב, במיוחד בדיני ממונות.
ר’ יצחק זאב הלוי סולובייצ’יק (תרמ”ו-תש”כ 1886-1959) היה בנו של ר’ חיים הלוי סולובייצ’יק. תלמיד המובהק של אביו, מגיל צעיר הלך שמו לפניו כבעל מח חריף, שקדן עצום וירא שמים. הוא ירש את מקום אביו כרב בבריסק, ובנוסף לתפקידו כרב לימד קבוצת תלמידים נבחרים. בעקבות בריחתו הניסית מאירופה בתקופת השואה הוא קבע את מושבו בירושלים, שם לימד תורה לבניו ולקומץ תלמידים מצטיינים. הוכר כאחד מגדולי המנהיגים בתקופתו והוערך במידה עצומה על ידי גדולי הרבנים והמון העם.
