Rare autograph letter by Rebbetzin Shterna Sarah Schneerson, the wife of the Ra’SHaB of Lubavitch.
Written to Mushka, daughter of R. Dovid Tzvi Chen, (RaDa”TZ) of Chernigov, Ukraine and her family. In the letter, she mentions that her granddaughter Chana’la has a seven-year old son, studying Chumash and Gemora, whom she refers to as “zayer a voiler kind.” This child was the Rebbetzin’s great-grandson, Barry (Sholom Dov Ber) Gurary (1923-2005).
Rebbetzin Shterna Sarah Schneerson (1860-1942), was a daughter of R. Yosef Yitzchak of Ovruch, a son of the Tzemach Tzedek. Her mother was the daughter of R. Yaakov Yisroel of Cherkasy, a son-in-law of the Mittler Rebbe. The Shidduch to the Ra’SHaB was arranged by their mutual grandfather The Tzemach Tzedeck. She actively assisted her husband in myriad communal matters. In 1940, she escaped Nazi occupied Warsaw for the United States together with her only son the Rebbe RaYaT”Z. She passed away in 1942 and was buried in New York. The Beis Sarah network of girls’ schools was named after her.

מכתב אוטוגרפי נדיר מהרבנית שטערנא שרה שניאורסון, אשתו של הרש”ב מליובביץ.
המכתב ממוען למושקא, בתו של ר’ דוד צבי חן (רד”ץ) מצ’רניגוב, אוקראינה ומשפחתה. במכתב מציינת הרבנית שלנכדה חנהלה’ יש בן בן שבע שנים אשר לומד חומש וגמרא. היא מכנה אותו “זייער א וווילער קינד”. מדובר בנין הרבנית, בארי (שלום דב בער) גוראריה (תרפ”ג-תשס”ה, 1923-2005).
הרבנית שטערנא שרה שניאורסון (תר”כ- תש”ב, 1860-1942), היתה בתו של ר’ יוסף יצחק מאוברוץ, בן הצמח צדק. אימה הייתה בת של ר’ יעקב ישראל מצ’רקאסי, חתן המיטלער’ רבי. את השידוך בינה לבין הרש”ב סידר הסבא מצד האם הצמח צדק. סייעה בפועל לבעלה ברבבות עניינים קהילתיים. בשנת ת”ש 1940, נמלטה מוורשא הכבושה בידי הנאצים, יחד עם בנה היחיד הרבי הרי”ץ, והגיעה לארה”ב. נפטרה בתש”ב 1942 ונקברה בניו יורק. רשת בתי הספר לבנות בית שרה נקראת על שמה.
