Warm “Kabolah” (certification) for a Shochet written and signed by both R. Yitzchok Elchonon Spektor of Kovno and R. Shmuel Mohilever. They both write that they have seen the shochet’s knives and slaughtering and that he can be relied upon as a proficient Shochet and a “Yerai Shamayim”.
R. Yitzchok Elchonon Spektor (1817-1896), was renowned for his Torah genius, diligence and righteousness. He was the supreme Torah authority of his generation and led Lithuanian and Russian Jewry for many years with perception and wisdom. He served in the Rabbinate from 1837. In 1864, he was appointed to the distinguished position as Rav of Kovno. His responsa and novella were printed in Be’er Yitzchok, Nachal Yitzchok and Ein Yitzchok.
R. Shmuel Mohilever (1824-1898), learned in the Volozhin Yeshiva and served as Rav in Bialystok. Known as a great Talmid Chochom, he was one of the early and most influential rabbinical leaders of the nascent Chovevei Tzion movement.

“קבלה” (תעודה) לבבית לשוחט, שכתבו ר’ יצחק אלחנן ספקטור מקובנא ורק שמואל מוהליבר, עם חתימותיהם. שניהם כותבים כי בדקו את הסכינים והשחיטה של שוחט זה וכי ניתן לסמוך עליו כשוחט בקיא וירא שמים.
ר’ יצחק אלחנן ספקטור (תקע”ז- תרנ”ו, 1817-1896), היה מגדולי הרבנים בתקופתו. נודע בגאונותו בתורה, שקדנותו וצדקותו. היווה את הסמכות התורנית העליונה בדורו והנהיג את יהדות ליטא ורוסיה בחכמה ובתבונה במשך שנים ארוכות. כיהן ברבנות מאז תקצ”ז 1837 ובשנת תרכ”ד 1864 נתמנה לתפקיד הרב בקובנא. תשובות וחידושי התורה שלו יצאו לאור בספרים באר יצחק, נחל יצחק ועין יצחק.
ר’ שמואל מוהליבר (תקפ”ד- תרנ”ח, 1824-1898), למד בשיבת וואלוז’ין וכיהן כרב בביאליסטוק. נודע כתלמיד חכם עצום והיה מראשוני הרבנים ומהמשפיעים ביותר בתנועת חובבי ציון שקמה בימיו.
