Novella on Maseches Gittin handwritten by the Ksav Sofer.
R’ Avrohom Shmuel Binyamin Sofer (1815-1872), was the eldest son of the Chasam Sofer. He was a talmid of his father and of R. Mordechai Ephraim Fischel Sofer. Following the passing of the Chasam Sofer in 1839 he was appointed as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva of Pressburg. Under his leadership the Kehilla of Pressburg in general, as well as the Yeshiva, continued to be great bastions of Torah. Many of the next generation of rabbinical leaders were amongst his students, and his novella (published posthumously) were received with great acclaim. His younger brother R. Shimon Sofer (Mictav Sofer), remarked “He was the successor of our father in every respect, and did not deviate at all from his tradition… His image hovered over him the entire day and his holy spirit was within him, and the Hand of Hashem was evident in all of his actions…”

ר’ אברהם שמואל בנימין סופר (תקע”ה-תרל”ב 1815-1872) היה בנו הבכור של החתם סופר. הוא היה תלמיד של אביו ושל ר’ מרדכי אפרים פישל סופר. לאחר פטירת החתם סופר בשנת ת”ר (1839) הוא התמנה לרב וראש ישיבת פרשבורג. קהילת פרשבורג בכלל והישיבה בפרט המשיכו לפרוח כמרכזי תורה תחת הנהגתו. רבים מרבני הדור הבא היו תלמידיו, וחידושי התורה שלו (שיצאו לאור לאחר פטירתו) התקבלו בהערכה רבה.
אחיו הגאון רבי שמעון סופר אב”ד קראקא ובעל שו”ת מכתב סופר כותב עליו בהקדמתו לשו”ת כתב סופר “היה ממלא מקום אבינו במלואו, ולא זז כל שהוא מארחו ונתיבו… זיוו חופף עליו כל היום, רוח קדשו בקרבו, ונודעה יד ה’ בכל מפעליו, כי סמך משה ידיו עליו, והיה כל מידותיו מתרומת מידותיו של אבינו , תורתו, צדקותו, וענוותנותו ומנהג נשיאותו”.
