Letter signed by R. Avrohom Yitzchok HaKohen Kook to the Rabbinate of Tel Aviv-Yaffo, on behalf of a Shochet who he sent there.
R. Avrohom Yitzchak Kook (1865-1935), was born in Griva, a suburb of Dvinsk and studied in the Volozhin Yeshiva. At the age of 19, he received Semicha from the Oruch Ha’Shulchon. He married the daughter of the ADERES Rav of Ponevezh. He served as Rov in Zhoimel, Boisk, Yaffo and finally as the Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem. During World War I, he was exiled to London where he served as Rav of the Machzikei Ha’Das. He was the founder of Ha’Yeshiva HaMercazit Ha’Olamit, which is today the Mercaz HaRav Yeshiva.

ר’ אברהם יצחק קוק, (תרכ”ה- תרצ”ה, 1865-1935), נולד בגריבה, מפרברי דווינסק, ולמד בישיבת וולוז’ין. בגיל 19 קיבל סמיכה מבעל “ערוך השולחן” ונישא לבת האדר”ת, הרב מפוניבז’. שימש כרב בזוימל, בבויסק, ביפו, וכרב הראשי בארץ ישראל. בתקופת מלחמת העולם הראשונה הוגלה ללונדון, שם שימש כרב בקהילת “מחזיקי הדת”. ייסד את הישיבה המרכזית העולמית, כיום ישיבת “מרכז הרב”.
