Psak Beis Din by the Hamburg Beis Din concerning a dispute with the Altona community with regards to a woman from Hamburg whose husband had passed away and had left her a considerable inheritance and she had since moved to Altona. The Hamburg community felt that they should receive the community taxes from the inheritance. This Psak decided on a compromised amount that the Hamburg community should receive. With mention of a ruling “from the Gaon Moreinu HaRav R. Hirsch Rav D’Kloiz”- the Chacham Tzvi, who was then a Rav in Altona.
This letter is of particular interest as it evidences, that despite the fact, that the Jewish community of the communities of Altona, Hamburg and Wandsbeck (AHU) were united, the respective communities still collected community taxes separately. Apparently, this was in this particular case a cause of contention.

פסק בית דין של בית הדין בהמבורג בעניין מחלוקת עם קהילת אלטונה. הנושא הוא אישה מהמבורג אשר בעלה נפטר והותיר לה ירושה גדולה, והיא כבר עברה לגור באלטונה. קהילת המבורג חשה כי מיסי הקהילה מהירושה מגיעים לה. פסק זה מכריע על סכום מסוים אותו יש להעביר לקהילת אלטונה כפשרה. עם איזכור פסק הלכה “מהגאון מורנו הרב ר’ הירש רב דקלויז” – החכם צבי, אשר אז היה רב באלטונה.
מכתב זה מעניין במיוחד שכן ממנה אנו למדים כי אמנם קהילות אלטונה, המבורג ווונדסבק (אה”ו) המפורסמות היו מאוחדות, אבל הקהילות המעטירות גבו את מיסי הקהילה שלהן בנפרד. במקרה מסוים זה היווה מצב זה עילה למחלוקת.
