Rare handwritten judicial document regarding the sale of a plot of land, signed by R. Yaakov Shaul Elyashar. The other two Dayanim on the Beis Din were R. Chai Avrohom HaKohen and R. Yosef Refoel Taragan, both of whom were among the distinguished Talmidei Chachomim of Yerusholayim.
R. Yaakov Shaul Elyashar, known as Yisa Berakhah (1817-1906), was orphaned at a young age and grew up in the home of his maternal grandfather R. Binyomin Mordechai Navon, Rosh Beis Din of Yerusholayim. He was famous from a young age as a Torah prodigy and was sent on important missions on behalf of the Old Yishuv to Damascus and Alexandria. In 1869, he was appointed as Rosh Beis Din of Yerusholayim. In 1893, following the passing of his father-in-law R. Meir Panigel, he was appointed to the distinguished position of Rishon L’TZion. He was enormously revered and worked closely with R. Shmuel Salant in leading the Old Yishuv. Author of Ma’aseh Ish.

מסמך משפטי נדיר בכתב יד בעניין מכירת חלקת אדמה, עם חתימתו של ר’ יעקב שאול אלישר. שני הדיינים הנוספים בבית הדין היו ר’ חי אברהם הכהן ור’ יוסף רפאל טאראגאן, שניהם מגדולי תלמידי החכמים בירושלים.
ר’ יעקב שאול אלישר המכונה ישא ברכה (תקע”ז-תרס”ו, 1817-1906), התייתם בגיל צעיר וגדל בבית סבו מצד אימו ר’ בנימין מרדכי נבון, ראש בית הדין בירושלים. התפרסם עוד מצעירותו כעילוי בתורה ונשלח למשימות חשובות בדמשק ובאלכסנדריה. בשנת תרכ”ט 1869 נתמנה לראש בית הדין, ובשנת תרנ”ג 1893, עם פטירת חמיו ר’ רפאל מאיר פאניז’ל, נתמנה לתפקיד רם המעלה- הראשון לציון. היה נערץ ביותר, והנהיג את היישוב הישן יחד עם ר’ שמואל סלנט. בעל מעשה איש.
