Rare long autograph letter sent to R. Chaim of Volozhin by R. Moshe Kahana of Warsaw and then Vilna, a student of R. Akiva Eiger and a great Talmid Chochom. In the letter he writes that as long as he was in Warsaw he was able to ask all his questions to R. Akiva Eiger, but now that he has relocated he is turning to R. Chaim of Volozhin. The letter then follows with a lengthy Torah discussion.
As is well known, there was a fire which destroyed most of R. Chaim Volozhiner’s seforim and manuscripts, hence surviving letters which were sent to him are extremely scarce.
2 (attached) pages. 4 sides. 22 by 35 cm. Blue paper. Moderate-fine condition. Wear on the fold marks and margins, some holes slightly affecting text. Stains throughout affecting text.

מכתב ארוך ונדיר בכתב יד שנשלח לר’ חיים מוולוז’ין מר’ משה כהנא, שהתגורר בווארשא ולאחר מכן בווילנא. הוא היה תלמידו של ר’ עקיבא איגר ותלמיד חכם עצום. במכתב הוא כותב שכל עוד הוא התגורר בווארשא הייתה לו אפשרות לפנות לר’ עקיבא איגר עם כל שאלותיו, אך כעת, משהעתיק את מקום מגוריו, הוא פונה לר’ חיים מוולוז’ין. לאחר מכן הוא מגולל סוגיא תורנית ארוכה.
כידוע, רוב ספריו וכתביו של ר’ חיים מוולוז’ין נהרסו בשריפה ומשום כך מכתבים שנשלחו אליו הינם נדירים ביותר.
