Rare halachic autograph responsa by R. Meir Ashkenazi, the Rav of Shanghai.
R. Meir Ashkenazi (1891-1954), was born in Tzrikov and studied in the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva in Lubavitch. He served as Rav in Vladivostok and in 1926, was offered a rabbinical position in Boston, Massachusetts, which he accepted. En route to Boston he travelled via Shanghai, and for various reasons he was forced to stay there. While in Shanghai, he established a branch of the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva and was instrumental in assisting the hundreds of Yeshiva students who were in Shanghai during the War, including the Mirrer and Chachmei Lublin Yeshivos. In 1949, R. Meir relocated to Crown Heights, where he was involved in various aspects of the Chabad organization.

תשובה הלכתית אוטוגרפית נדירה מאת ר’ מאיר אשכנזי, רבה של שנחאי.
ר’ מאיר אשכנזי (תרנ”א- תשי”ד- 1891-1954), נולד בצריקוב ולמד בישיבת תומכי תמימים בליובאוויטש. כיהן כרב בוולאדיווסטוק ובשנת תרפ”ו (1926), כשהוצעה לו משרה רבנית בבוסטון, מסצ’וסטס, נענה בחיוב. בדרך לבוסטון עבר בשנחאי ומסיבות שונות נאלץ להישאר בה. בהיותו בשנחאי הקים סניף של ישיבת תומכי תמימים והיה לעזר למאות תלמידי הישיבות שהתיישבו בשנחאי במהלך המלחמה, ביניהן ישיבת מיר וישיבת חכמי לובלין. בשנת תש”ט (1949) עבר ר’ מאיר לקראון הייטס, שם עסק בפעילויות השונות של ארגון חב”ד.
