Rare letter by R. Moshe Bernstein to R. Moshe Schwab (later Mashgiach of Gateshead Yeshiva) upon the latter’s marriage. After congratulating him on his marriage and wishing him warm blessings, he writes that he arrived in Eretz Yisroel together with his brother-in-law R. Yaakov Moshe Leibowitz and their families. “R. Reuven and his family are in America, it seems my mother-in-law (wife of R. Baruch Ber) remained in Lithuania together with her grandchildren and I have no knowledge whatsoever of her whereabouts. R. Naftali is together with the bochurim of the Kaminetz Yeshiva in Siberia, however we know very little of their situation…… Here in Eretz Yisroel we were fortunate to reestablish the Kaminetz Yeshiva with bochurim from Lithuania as well as local bochurim and in a period of time we have established a reputation as in previous times…”
R. Moshe Bernstein (1892-1956), was born in Lusha, (a suburb of Minsk), and learned in the Slutzk Yeshiva under R. Isser Zalman Meltzer and in Knesses Beis Yitzchok in Slabodka under his future father-in-law, R. Baruch Ber Leibowitz. After his marriage, he served as R”M in the Kosovo Yeshiva, where he learned together with the Chazon Ish. In the 1930’s, he was appointed R”M in the Kaminetz Yeshiva. During the war, he emigrated to Yerusholayim, where he re-established Yeshivas Kaminetz together with his brother-in-law R. Yaakov Moshe Leibowitz. R. Yitzchok Scheiner, the current Rosh Yeshiva, is a son in law of R. Moshe Bernstein.

מכתב נדיר שכתב ר’ משה ברנשטיין לר’ משה שוואב (משגיח בישיבת גייטסהד) לרגל נישואיו. בתחילת המכתב הוא מברך אותו על נישואיו ומאחל לו ברכות לרוב. אחר כך הוא כותב שהוא, יחד עם גיסו ר’ יעקב משה ליבוביץ ומשפחותיהם הגיעו לארץ ישראל. “הרב ר’ ראובן ומשפחתו הוא באמריקה. חותנתנו תחי’ כנראה נשארה בליטא יחד עם נכדיה אבל אין לנו שום ידיעה ממנה. הרב ר’ נפתלי יחד עם כל בני הישיבה נמצאים בסיביר אבל כמעט שאין לנו שום ידיעה מהם…..והנה זכנו ה’ ליסד את הישיבה ….. כי הצלחנו לכנס אל ישיבתינו בחורים יקרים ומצוינים…. קנתה הישיבה שם בכל הפרטים כעין קמניץ…..”
ר’ משה ברנשטיין (תרנ”ב- תשט”ז, 1892-1956), נולד בלושא (פרבר של מינסק) ולמד בישיבת סלוצק אצל ר’ איסר זלמן מלצר, ובישיבת כנסת בית יצחק אצל חותנו לעתיד ר’ ברוך בער ליבוביץ. אחר נישואיו כיהן כר”מ בישיבת קוסובה, בה למד יחד עם החזון איש. בזמן השואה עלה לארץ ישראל וייסד בה מחדש את ישיבת קמניץ יחד עם גיסו ר’ יעקב משה ליבוביץ. חותנו של ר’ יצחק שיינר.
