R. Akiva Yosef Schlesinger (1838-1922), was born in Pressburg. The Chasam Sofer served as Mohel at his bris. He studied under the Ksav Sofer, R. Chaim Sofer and the Ma’HaRaM Schick. Known as an extraordinary Talmid Chochom with a brilliant and original mind proficient in both the revealed and hidden Torah. He was married to the daughter of R. Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolamaya. In 1870, he emigrated to Yerusholayim where he was known for his original halachic rulings as well as his fierce protection of the old Yishuv from foreign influences.
Printed by Shlomo Yarush Rappaport of Lemberg, who printed the first edition of the Noam Elimelech in 1788. For generations, it has been widely accepted among Chasidim, that one of the 36 “Hidden Tsaddikim” was among his staff and the first edition Noam Elimelech is a well-known Segulah.

ר’ עקיבה יוסף שלזינגר (תקצ”ח-תרכ”ב 1838-1922) נולד בפרשבורג. החתם סופר שימש כמוהל בבריתו. הוא למד מפי הכתב סופר והמהר”ם שיק. נודע כתלמיד חכם עצום בעל חשיבה מבריקה ומקורית, והיה בקי בנגלה ובנסתר. הוא היה נשוי לבתו של ר’ הלל ליכטנשטיין מקולמיאה. בשנת תר”ל (1870) הוא עלה לירושלים, שם נודע בזכות פסיקותיו המקוריות והגנתו העיקשת על היישוב הישן מפני רוחות זרות.
נדפס בבית הדפוס של שלמה יארוש רפפורט מלמבערג, אשר הדפיס גם את המהדורה הראשונה של הספר נועם אלימלך בשנת תקמ”ח 1788. במשך דורות היה מקובל אצל החסידים כי בבית הדפוס עבד גם אחד מל”ו הצדיקים הנסתרים, והמהדורה הראשונה של ספר נועם אלימלך נחשבת לסגולה מפורסמת.
