Ta’amei HaMinhagim, both volumes, by R. Avrohom Yitzchok Sperling, with library stamps of R. Yosef Shlomo “Ish Cohen” (Kahaneman) from his youth, when he served as Rav in Vidz, following his father-in-law’s move to Vilkomir in 1911.
R. Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman (1888-1969), learned under the great Roshei Yeshiva of Lithuania, including R. Eliezer Gordon and R. Shimon Shkop, in the Novardok Yeshiva and later under the Chofetz Chaim in Radin. He married the daughter of R. Leib Rubin, then the Rav in Vidz, and first served as Rav in Vidz and then as Rav in Ponevezh, where he established a prominent Yeshiva. Aside from his astounding proficiency in Torah, the Ponevezher Rav was extremely charismatic and served as a member of the Lithuanian parliament on behalf of the Agudas Yisroel. Following his escape from the Holocaust, he invested all of his energy into reestablishing the Ponevezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak in particular, with a singular focus on reestablishing Torah following the Holocaust.

טעמי המנהגים, שני הכרכים, מאת ר’ אברהם יצחק ספרלינג, עם חותמות ספריה של ר’ יוסף שלמה “איש כהן” (כהנמן) בצעירותו, עת כיהן כרב בווידז, אחר שחמיו עבר לווילקומיר תרע”א ב1911.
ר’ יוסף שלמה כהנמן (תרמ”ח-תשכ”ט, 1888-1969), למד תורה מפי גדולי ראשי הישיבות בליטא, ביניהם ר’ אליעזר גורדון ור’ שמעון שקאפ בישיבת נובהרדוק, והחפץ חיים בישיבת ראדין. נישא לבתו של ר’ לייב רובין, הרב בווידז. משרתו הרבנית הראשונה הייתה בווידז ואחריה בפוניבז’ בה גם הקים ישיבה מעטירה. נוסף לידיעותיו בכל מכמני התורה, היה גם כריזמטי ביותר, ושימש כנציג אגודת ישראל בפרלמנט הליטאי. אחר מנוסתו מהשואה, השקיע את כל כוחו בהקמת ישיבת פוניבז’ מחדש בבני ברק, וכינון עולם התורה אחרי השואה.
