Historic document signed by the Rabbonim of the Lodz ghetto requesting a meeting with the controversial head of the Judenrat, Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski. In this letter the surviving Rabbonim of the Ghetto, including R. Nechemya Alter (1875- 1942, son of the Imrei Emes and Father in Law of the Lev Simcha of Ger) request a meeting with Rumkowski.

Rumkowski was a controversial figure, nicknamed “King Rumkowski” who believed that by industrializing the Lodz ghetto the Jews had a chance of surviving. He was disdained by the inmates of the Ghetto, who accused him of collaborating with the Nazis.

במכתב זה רבני לודז’ השורדים (ביניהם ר’ נחמיה אלתר (תרל”ה- תש”ב 1875-1942), בנו של האמרי אמת וחמיו של הלב שמחה מגור) מבקשים ישיבה עם רומקובסקי.

רומקובסקי היה דמות השנויה במחלוקת שכונה “המלך רומקובסקי”, הוא האמין שעל ידי תיעוש גטו לודז’ יהיה ליהודים סיכוי לשרוד.אסירי הגטו אשר האשימו את רומקובסקי בשיתוף פעולה עם הנאצים, בחלו בו ותיעבו אותו.
