Rare commentary on the book of Mishlei by R. Yaakov Yisroel, the Kremnitzer Maggid.
R. Yaakov Yisroel Ben R. Tzvi Hirsch (d. 1799), was a close talmid of R. Shimshon Meisels of Zolkiew and R. Yitzchak of Belz. He was famous as a celebrated traveling Maggid who was highly praised by the Chozeh of Lublin. Renowned for his other seforim, Shevet M’Yisroel (Zolkiew 1772) and Agudas Eizov (Zolkiew 1782), his seforim are widely cited, including by the Malbim, the Chasam Sofer and particularly by the Yismach Moshe (see introduction to the Shevet M’Yisroel (2011) pp. 5-6 and 27-8).
R. Shlomo Yarush Rappaport published in the same year, the first edition of the celebrated Noam Elimelech. For generations, it has been widely accepted among Chasidim, that one of the 36 hidden Tsaddikim was among his staff and the first edition Noam Elimelech is a well-known segulah.
With inscription and signature of R. Avigdor Caro “from the family of the Tana R. Chanina Caro and other Tzadikim and Chassidim.” Lengthy scholarly note in another hand on rear pastedown. Also included is his family-lineage and the list of a private library.

ר’ יעקב ישראל בן ר’ צבי הירש (נפטר בתקנ”ט 1799), היה תלמידם ומקורבם של ר’ שמשון מייזלס מזולקווא ור’ יצחק מבעלזא. היה מגיד מפורסם שעבר ממקום למקום וזכה להערצה עצומה מהחוזה מלובלין. נודע בעיקר בספריו האחרים, שבט מישראל (זולקווא תקל”ב 1772) ואגודת אזוב (זולקווא תקמ”ב 1782). גדולי ישראל רבים מצטטים רבות מספריו ביניהם המלבי”ם, החתם סופר ובעיקר הישמח משה (ראה הקדמה לשבט מישראל (תשע”א 2011) עמודים 5-6 ו27-8).
בבית דפוסו של ר’ שלמה יארוש רפפורט הודפסה בשנה זו (תקמ”ח 1788) המהדורה הראשונה של הספר נועם אלימלך. במשך דורות היה מקובל אצל החסידים כי בבית הדפוס עבד גם אחד מל”ו הצדיקים הנסתרים, והמהדורה הראשונה של ספר נועם אלימלך נחשב לסגולה מפורסמת.
עם הקדשה וחתימה של ר’ אביגדור קארו “ממשפחתו של התנא ר’ חנינא קארו ועוד צדיקים וחסידים”. הערה ארוכה בכתב אחר בכריכה האחורית הפנימית. כמו כן מופיע סדר היוחסין שלו ורשימת ספרייה פרטית.
