Unidentified rabbinical signatures and glosses.
First edition of the classic sefer, Shnei Luchos Ha’Bris, with Vavei Ha’Amudim, by the author’s son R. Sheftel Horowitz. The sefer is partially a Halachic code and partially Kabbalistic teachings and had a tremendous influence on future generations. It also has the distinction of being referred to as the SHLoH Ha’Kodosh “the holy SHLoH”, which is indicative of the reverence in which it is held. Particularly favored by Mekubalim, it served as the source for many of the fundamental teachings of the early Chassidic Movement.
R. Yeshaya Ha’Levi Horowitz (1555-1630), was born in Prague. He was a pupil of his father R. Avrohom Horowitz, who in turn was a pupil of the Rema. He also learned under R. Meir of Lublin (Ma’HaRaM) and R. Yehoshua Falk (The Perisha). He served as Rov in several prestigious kehillos including Vienna, Posen and Frankfurt. Following the expulsion of Jews from Frankfurt (1614), he was appointed as Rov of Prague. In 1621, (after the death of his wife), he moved to Eretz Yisroel and was appointed Rov of the Ashkenazic community in Yerusholayim. Following an incident where he was kidnapped and imprisoned (together with 15 other Rabbonim) and held for ransom, he relocated to Tzefas. He was niftar in 1630 and is buried in Tiveria, where thousands flock to pray at his grave.

מהדורה ראשונה של הספר המיוחד שני לוחות הברית, עם ווי העמודים מאת ר’ שעפטל הורביץ, בן המחבר. הספר הוא בחלקו כללים הלכתיים ובחלקו תורת הקבלה, והייתה לו השפעה אדירה על הדורות הבאים. על יראת הכבוד בה הוחזק ניתן ללמוד מהעובדה שהוא כונה “השל”ה הקדוש”. אהוב במיוחד על מקובלים, הספר שימש כמקור לרבים מן העקרונות הבסיסיים של תנועת החסידות הקדומה.
ר’ ישעיה הלוי הורוויץ (שט”ו- ש”צ, 1555-1630), נולד בפראג. למד תורה מפי אביו ר’ אברהם הורוויץ, אשר היה תלמיד הרמ”א. וכן למד אצל ר’ מאיר מלובלין (מהר”ם) ור’ יהושע פאלק (הפרישה).כיהן כרב בקהילות חשובות רבות, ביניהן וינה, פוזנא, ופרנקפורט. עם גירוש היהודים מפרנקפורט בשנת שע”ד (1614), נתמנה לרבה של פראג. בשנת שפ”א (1621) (לאחר פטירת אשתו) עלה לארץ ישראל ומונה לרב הקהילה האשכנזית בירושלים. בעקבות אירוע בו נחטף ונכלא, (יחד עם עוד 15 רבנים אחרים) והוחזק תמורת כופר נפש, הוא עבר להתגורר בצפת. נפטר בשנת ש”צ (1630) ונקבר בטבריה. אלפים נוהרים להתפלל על קברו.
