Important sefer with the teachings of R. Aharon HaLevi Horowitz of Strelish.
R. Aharon Halevi Horowitz (1766-1828), also known simply as The Strelisher, was one of the most eminent of the talmidim of the Ba’al HaTanya, with whom he learned privately together with the Mittler Rebbe. Following the passing of the Ba’al HaTanya in 1813, a significant number of the Chabad Chasidim appointed him as their Rebbe while the others became Chasidim of the Mittler Rebbe. The two great leaders differed primarily in their understanding of the Ba’al Hatanya’s doctrine as to the preferred path to Divine service. The Strelisher published his Sha’arei Avoda in which he set forth his views, and the Mittler Rebbe countered with his own work Kuntrus Ha’Hispalus, published in 1831.

ר’ אהרן הלוי הורוויץ מסטרעליש, “הסטרעלישער” (תקכ”ו-תקפ”ח 1766-1828) נחשב לבכיר תלמידי בעל התניא שאתו למד ביחידות יחד עם ה”האדמו”ר האמצעי”. לאחר פטירת בעל התניא בשנת תקע”ג (1813), חלק נכבד מחסידי חב”ד קיבלו אותו כרבם בעוד שאחרים הפכו לחסידיו של האדמו”ר האמצעי. שני מנהיגים גדולים אלו נחלקו בדבר הדרך המועדפת לעבודת ה’ על פי בעל התניא. הסטרעלישער כתב בספר זה את השקפותיו ודעותיו, ומנגד חיבר האדמו”ר האמצעי את “קונטרס ההתפעלות” תקצ”א 1831.
