Complete set of the K’nesses HaGedolah on the four sections of the Shulchan Aruch, by R. Chaim Benveniste.
R. Chaim Benveniste (1603-1673), was born in Constantinople and in his youth studied under R. Yosef of Trani among others. He served as Rav in Tirah, near Izmir, and then in Izmir itself. His seforim were received to tremendous acclaim and the CHIDA famously recommended that these commentaries be consulted prior to rendering any halachic decision.

With signature of R. Michel Sheir (1739-1810) who served as Rav and Rosh Yeshiva in a number of distinguished Kehillos in Germany. His most famous Talmid was the Chasam Sofer, who delivered a Hesped on R. Michel Sheir.

R. Tzvi Hirsch Berlin-Levin (1721-1800), was a son of R. Aryeh Leib Levenstam, the famed Rav of Amsterdam and a grandson of the Chacham Tzvi. He was one of the most well- known rabbinical figures of his period and served as Rav of various distinguished communities including London (where he was known as Hart Lyon), Manheim and Berlin. His glosses on the Talmud are printed at the back of the Vilna Shas. Brother of R. Shaul of Amsterdam (Binyan Ariel) and father of R. Solomon Hirschell first Chief Rabbi of the British Empire.

ר’ חיים בנבנישתי (שס”ג- תל”ג, 1603-1673), נולד בקונסטנטינופול ולמד תורה מפי ר’ יוסף מטראני ועוד רבנים. כיהן כרב בטירא הסמוכה לאיזמיר, ואחר כך באיזמיר עצמה. ספריו התקבלו באהדה עצומה, וידוע בשם החיד”א כי מומלץ לעיין בכנסת הגדולה טרם פסיקת ההלכה.

ר’ צבי הירש ברלין- לוין (תפ”א- תק”ס, 1721-1800), היה בנו של ר’ אריה לייב לוונשטאם- הרב הנודע של אמסטרדם, ונכד החכם צבי. היה רב מפורסם מאוד בדורו וכיהן כרב בקהילות חשובות שונות, ביניהן לונדון (שם כונה הארט ליאון), מנהיים וברלין. הגהותיו על הש”ס נדפסו בסוף ש”ס וילנא. אביו של ר’ שלמה הירשל’, הרב הראשי הראשון באימפריה הבריטית, ואחיו של ר’ שאול מאמסטרדם (בנין אריאל).
