Kabbalistic commentary to the Torah by R. Avrohom Saba.
R. Avrohom Saba (1440-1508), learned under R. Yitzchok Di Leon and was exiled in 1492 from his native Castile. No sooner did he find refuge in Oporto, Portugal, then King Emanuel ordered all Jews converted and all Hebrew books burned. His sons were forcibly baptized and his extensive library plundered. He escaped to Fez, Morocco, where he rewrote this sefer from memory.
The CHIDA in Shem HaGedolim, quotes a remarkable episode about R. Avrohom Saba. On a journey from Fez to Verona he became sick on the ship in mid-ocean during a great storm. The captain, unable to control the ship, had given up all hope and implored him to pray for divine assistance. R. Avrohom stipulated that in case of his death his body should be delivered to the Jewish community of Verona, and then prayed for the safety of the vessel. The storm abated, and the ship went safely on. Two days later he died, and the captain, keeping his promise, brought the body to Verona, where it was buried with great honors.
With signature of R. Avrohom Ha’Levi of Chelm, Rav of Emden and Hildesheim. One of the greatest rabbinical leaders of his time, he corresponded with the Chacham Tzvi and is mentioned in Teshuvos Noda B’Yehuda. With additional rabbinical dedications.

ר’ אברהם סבא (ר’- רס”ח, 1440-1508), למד אצל ר’ יצחק די ליאון והוגלה מקסטיליה הולדתו בשנת רנ”ב 1492. כמעט מיד אחר שמצא מפלט בעיר אופורטו שבפורטוגל, ציווה המלך עמנואל על כל היהודים להתנצר, ולשרוף את כל ספרי התלמוד. בניו הוטבלו בעל כורחם, וספרייתו העשירה נבזזה. הוא עצמו נמלט לפאס שבמרוקו, בה שיחזר מזיכרונו את ספרו זה.
החיד”א בשם הגדולים מצטט סיפור מעורר השתאות אודות ר’ אברהם סבא. במהלך הפלגה מפאס לוורונה, חלה ר’ אברהם באמצע הדרך, תוך שסערה אימתנית איימה להטביע את האונייה. רב החובל המיואש הפציר בו שיתפלל לאלוקיו לשוך המים, ור’ אברהם התנה זאת בהבטחה שאם ימות באוניה- תועבר גופתו לקהילה היהודית בוורונה. אכן, ר’ אברהם התפלל לשלום האונייה, והסערה שככה. אחר יומיים הוא נפטר, ורב החובל קיים את הבטחתו והעביר את גופתו לוורונה, שם נקבר בכבוד גדול.
עם חתימת ר’ אברהם הלוי מחעלמא אב”ד עמדין והלידסהיים. מגאוני דורו היה לו חילופי מכתבים עם החכם צבי ונזכר בתשובת נודע ביהודה. עם הקדשות רבניות נוספות.
