Sefer Chofetz Chaim on the laws of Lashon Hara, by R. Yisroel Meir Ha’Cohen. This was the first sefer written by the Chofetz Chaim, who ultimately became known as the Chofetz Chaim after this work. The Sefer Chofetz Chaim was printed anonymously with the title page and the approbations without the author’s name, however (presumably for legal reasons) it does have “I. M. Kagan” in Cyrillic letters.
R. Yisroel Meir Ha’Cohen Kagan (1838-1933), was the preeminent Torah leader of his time. He published many Seforim on topics he felt needed emphasis, such as the laws of forbidden speech, family purity, tznius and daily Torah study in addition to the Mishna Berurah. He also placed importance on studying the laws of Kodshim to prepare for the arrival of Moshiach and published Likutei Halachos on Kodshim.

ספר יסוד על הלכות לשון הרע ורכילות. זהו ספרו הראשון של החפץ חיים, ומכאן כינויו חפץ חיים. הספר חפץ חיים יצא לאור בעילום שם, ללא הזכרת שם המחבר בעמוד השער ובהסכמות, אולם (יש להניח שמסיבות משפטיות) כן כתוב בו “י. מ. כגן” באותיות קיריליות.
ר‘ ישראל מאיר הכהן כגן (תקצ”ח- תרצ”ג, 1838-1933), היה ממנהיגי התורה הדגולים בתקופתו. הוא הוציא ספרי קודש רבים על נושאים שהרגיש שצריכים חיזוק, כגון הלכות לשון הרע, טהרת המשפחה, צניעות ולימוד תורה יומי בנוסף למשנה ברורה. הוא גם ייחס חשיבות ללימוד הלכות קדשים כדי להתכונן לביאת המשיח והוציא לאור ליקוטי הלכות על קדשים.
