R. Mordechai Banet (1753-1829) was one of the greatest Jewish leaders of the 18th century, held in awe by both his rabbinical contemporaries as well as by the general populace. Of distinguished lineage, he was a leading student of both Reb Schmelke of Nikolsburg and the famed R. Yechezkel Landau (the Noda B’Yehuda). After serving in various positions, he became the Dayan and Rosh Yeshiva of Nikolsburg during the tenure of Reb Schmelke, whom he later succeeded as Rav. Author of numerous important works including Biur Mordechai, Magen Avos, T’cheiles Mordechai, Proshas Mordechai and others.

ר’ מרדכי בנט (תקי”ג-תקפ”ט 1753-1829) היה מגדולי המנהיגים היהודיים במאה השמונה עשרה, שהוערץ הן על ידי חבריו הרבנים והן על ידי המון העם. הוא נולד למשפחה מיוחסת והיה תלמיד נבחר של ר’ שמעלקע מניקלשבורג ור’ יחזקאל לנדא (הנודע ביהודה). לאחר שכיהן במשרות שונות, הוא התמנה לדיין ולראש ישיבת ניקלשבורג במהלך כהונתו של ר’ שמעלקע, שאת מקומו ירש כרב ברבות הימים. הוא חיבר מספר ספרים חשובים כולל ביאור מרדכי, מגן אבות, תכלת מרדכי, פרשת מרדכי ועוד.
