Collection of Deroshos on the weekly Torah portions and festivals authored by R. Yitzchok Moshe Ibn Arroyo.
R. Yitzchok Moshe Ibn Arroyo was a student of R. Yosef Tiatzik and was among the esteemed Torah scholars of the well-known community of Salonika. In his introduction to this sefer, he describes how his entire family passed away in his lifetime except for one son. He thus named his work Tanchumos E-il (Consolation of G-D) based on the verse in the book of Iyov (15:11) pertaining to human suffering. At the end of the Sefer there appears a poem in praise of the book by a contemporary Salonikan Jewish poet, R. Saadia Longo. Printed during the prime era of the Jewish community in Salonika, on the press of the Azuviv family. This particular press was only active for about ten years, hence the scarcity.
On the title page, there appears twice, in a hand from that era, that this sefer belongs to the esteemed R. Nosson Ha’Cohen Adler.
R. Nosson Adler (1742-1801), was a student of the Pnei Yehoshua, R. Moshe Rapp and R. Dovid Schiff. Famed for his saintliness and sagacity, he served as Rav in various communities, eventually settling in Frankfurt where he taught a small group of elite students. His most prominent student was R. Moshe Sofer (the Chasam Sofer). Additionally, there appears a signature on the title page, seemingly of R. Shimon Halevi Segal, who was a brother-in-law and student of R. Akiva Eiger. ר’ יצחק משה ן’ ארויו היה תלמידו של ר’ יוסף טיאטציק ומבכירי תלמידי החכמים בקהילת סלוניקה המעטירה. בהקדמתו לספר זה, הוא כותב איך נפטרו כל בני משפחתו בחייו מלבד בן אחד. אי לכך, הוא קרא לספרו “תנחומות א-ל” על פי הפסוק באיוב (טו, יא) המדבר מעניין הסבל האנושי. בסוף הספר מופיע שיר המעלה על נס את הספר מפרי עטו של משורר סלוניקאי יהודי, ר’ סעדיה לונגו.
הודפס בדפוס בסלוניקה, בדפוס של משפחת אזוביב. דפוס מסוים זה היה פעיל במשך עשור בלבד, ולכן הספרים שהודפסו בו כה מעטים.
בעמוד השער מופיעות שתי פעמים בכתב יד עתיק שספר זה שייך לר’ נתן הכהן אדלר.
ר’ נתן אדלר (תק”ב-תקס”א 1742-1801) היה תלמידו של הפני יהושע, ר’ משה ראפ ור’ דוד שיף. נודע בשל גאוניותו וחסידותו, הוא שימש כרב בקהילות שונות וברבות הימים התיישב בפרנקפורט, שם לימד קבוצת תלמידים נבחרים. תלמידו המובהק היה ר’ משה סופר (ה’חת”ם סופר’).
בנוסף, בעמוד השער מופיעה חתימה, כנראה מר’ שמעון הלוי סג”ל, שהיה גיסו ותלמידו של ר’ עקיבא איגר. מח”ס שער שמעון.
