An important early sefer dealing with Astronomy and the Sciences from a Jewish perspective.
This is the second edition of the work that was originally published by R. Menashe Ben Yisroel in Amsterdam, 1629. This edition includes additional notes, corrections and a biography of the author.
R. Yosef Shlomo Rofeh Delmedigo, known as Yoshor Mi-Candia, was born in 1591. At the age of 15, he began to study the laws of nature, philosophy, mathematics and medicine at the University of Padua. Galileo Galilei was one of his teachers. His many works deal with a wide range of subjects including Astronomy, Algebra, Chemistry, Mechanics, translations of Greek texts, Copernicus’s theories, a book on paradoxes, a debate with Aristotle’s Philosophy , a book of logic and more. Some of his books were never published.

ספר זה יצא לאור לראשונה באמסטרדם בשפ”ט (1629), על ידי ר’ מנשה בן ישראל. מהדורה זו היא השנייה וכוללת הוספות, תיקונים וכן ביוגרפיה של המחבר.
ר’ יוסף שלמה רופה דלמדיגו, המכונה ה”ישר” מכרתים, נולד בשנת שנ”א (1591). בגיל 15 החל בלימוד חוקי הטבע, פילוסופיה, מתמטיקה ורפואה באוניברסיטת פאדובה. בין מוריו היה גלילאו גלילי. כתב חיבורים רבים במגוון רחב של תחומים ביניהם אסטרונומיה, אלגברה, כימיה, מכונאות, תרגום טקסטים יווניים, טענות קופרניקוס, ספר על פרדוקסים, ויכוח על טענות אריסטו, ספר הגיון ועוד. כמה מספריו מעולם לא ראו אור.
