Classic work of responsa by R. Binyomin Ze’ev Artah. This is considered by bibliographers to be the first sefer of responsa by an Achron. Includes introductory and closing songs, as well as a eulogy given by the author upon the passing of his son. Like many copies this one includes a long gloss of correction on page 456b possibly in the handwriting of the author.
R. Binyomin Ze’ev of Artah (c. 1475-1545), was born in Greece and studied under the local Talmidei Chachomim, his uncle R. Kalev, R. Binyomin B”R Shmaryahu and R. Shlomo B”R Shmuel HaSfardi, who eventually became his father-in-law. Renowned as a prominent Posek, his halachic responsa are quoted and discussed extensively by the Rema, MaHaRaM Padwa and the MaHaRSHaL among others, with many deeming some of his Halachic decisions to be lenient.

ר’ בנימין זאב מארטה (רל”ה- ש”ה, 1475-1545 בקירוב), נולד ביון ולמד אצל תלמידי החכמים המקומיים, דודו ר’ כלב, ר’ בנימין ב”ר שמריהו, ור’ שלמה ב”ר שמואל הספרדי, לימים נעשה חותנו. נודע כפוסק גדול, ותשובותיו ההלכתיות מצוטטות ונידונות בהרחבה אצל הרמ”א, המהר”ם פאדווא, המהרש”ל ועוד אחרים. רבים מהם מחשיבים חלק מפסיקותיו למקילות.
