Meir Karelitz is a representative of the American Central Relief Committee with the authority to provide financial assistance to poor Jews. Typed in Latvian, dated 1920, during the tumultuous period following World War One. Rare photograph of Rabbi Karelitz as well as official seals of various communal offices.
Rabbi Meir Karelitz (1877-1956) was the eldest son of the Kosovo Rav, R. Shmaryahu Yosef Karelitz and a brother of the Chazon Ish. Married to a granddaughter of the Cheshek Shlomo of Vilna, he served a Dayan in Vilna alongside R. Chaim Ozer Grodensky. He immigrated to Eretz Yisroel in 1937 where he was extremely active in the needs of the new Yishuv.
