On a picture postcard of the Hotel Russell in London. Fine condition. Autograph postcard written to Mr. Moshe Lutzki of Oxford. Dated Berlin 1931; concerns an arrangement with Mr. Lutzki to sell the sefarim authored by R. Heller. Fine condition. Autograph letter written to Mr. Moshe Lutzki of Oxford. Dated New York, October 1939; requesting a scholarly article. On stationery of the Hotel Newton in New York. Fair condition. Lot includes an additional unsigned letter. R. Chaim Heller (1879-1960) grew up in Warsaw and was known as the “Illui of Warsaw”. Renowned from a young age as a brilliant scholar, he was a close associate of R. Chaim Soloveitchik, R. Eliyahu Chaim Meisels and R. Eliyahu Feinstein (Pruzhana), all of whom held him in great esteem. After serving for a short period as Rav of Lomza, he relocated to Berlin where he founded a Yeshiva. Following the rise of Nazism he escaped to New York serving on the faculty of Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchak Elchonon. He authored numerous important works, most notably an edition of the Sefer Ha’Mitzvos of the Rambam.
