Halachic responsa on the subject of Mikvaos signed twice by R. Yishmoel Cohen.
R. Yishmoel Cohen (1723-1811) served as a Rosh Yeshiva in Modena where his elder brother R. Dovid served as Rav. Following his brother’s passing in 1782 he succeeded him as Rav. Known as one of the most distinguished Rabbonim in Italy, he was closely associated with the Chida with whom he corresponded. He was a great Posek and prolific author and his Halachic responsa were printed under the title Zerah Emes. In 1806 as the preeminent Rav in Italy he was invited by Napoleon to the “Paris Sanhedrin” which Napoleon convened. Although he was unable to travel due to his advanced age, he penned an official response for the occasion which was used by R. Dovid Zinzheim at the proceedings.

תשובה בדיני מקוואות, חתום פעמיים על ידי ר’ ישמעאל כהן
ר’ ישמעאל כהן (תפ”ג-תקע”א 1723-1811) שימש כראש ישיבה במודנה. אחיו הגדול ר’ דוד כיהן במקום כרב, ובעקבות פטירתו בשנת תקמ”ב (1782) הוא מילא את מקומו ברבנות. הוא נודע כאחד הרבנים המפורסמים באיטליה, עמד בקשר קרוב עם החיד”א ואף התכתב אתו. היה פוסק דגול וסופר רב פעלים, והשו”ת ההלכתי שלו יצא לאור תחת השם “זרע אמת”. בשנת תקס”ו (1806), בעת כהונתו כרב הראשי של איטליה, הוא הוזמן על ידי נפוליאון להצטרף ל”סנהדרין של פריז” שכונס תחת חסותו. אף על פי שלא יכול היה לנסוע עקב גילו המבוגר, הוא כתב תגובה רשמית לאירוע שבו השתמש ר’ דוד זינזהיים במהלך הדיונים
