Tractate Bikkurim of the Jerusalem Talmud with a three part commentary by R. Avrahom Eliezer Alperstein.
R. Avrahom Eliezer Alperstein (1853-1917) was born in Kobrin and studied under R. Yosef Dov Halevy Soloveitchik (Bais Ha’Levy) and R. Yaakov Dovid Wilovsky (Ridvaz). He held a rabbinical post in Slabodka before Emigrating to America in 1881, where he was a Rav first in New York and later in Chicago. In 1901 he returned to New York where he became the first instructor at Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yitzchok Elchonon (Yeshiva University) and was also a founder and vice president of Agudas Ha’Rabonim. Known as a tremendous Talmid Chochom, he lived in abject poverty refusing to get involved in the lucrative kashrus supervision business, considering it a sordid industry.
This sefer was followed by a second edition three years later. The most notable difference between the two editions is in the way R. Alperstein refers to his Chicago congregants; in this first edition he heaps florid praise upon them, while in the second edition he disdainfully chastises them as “wild boars.”

ר’ אברהם אליעזר אלפרשטיין (תקי”ג-תרע”ז 1853-1917) נולד בקוברין ולמד אצל ר’ יוסף דוב הלוי סולובייצ’יק (בית הלוי) ור’ יעקב דוד וילובסקי (רידב”ז). הוא שימש בתפקיד רבני בסלבודקא עד שהיגר לאמריקה בשנת תרמ”א (1881), שם כיהן כרב בניו יורק ומאוחר יותר בשיקגו. בשנת תרס”א (1901) הוא חזר לניו יורק והפך למנחה הראשון בישיבת רבינו יצחק אלחנן (ישיבה יוניברסיטי). כמו כן, הוא ייסד את אגודת הרבנים ושימש כסגן נשיא הארגון. היה ידוע כתלמיד חכם עצום וחי בעוני מחפיר. הוא סירב להיכנס לתחום פיקוח הכשרות שהיה משתלם במיוחד, מפני שבעיניו מדובר היה בעסק שפל.
מהדורה שנייה לספר זה הופיעה כעבור שלוש שנים. ההבדל הבולט ביותר בין שתי המהדורות הוא התייחסותו של הרב אלפרשטיין לבני קהילתו בשיקגו. במהדורה ראשונה זו הוא מרעיף עליהם שבחים מליציים, ואילו במהדורה השנייה הוא מגנה אותם בבוז כ”חזירי בר”
