The inscription reads (in Hebrew) “presented as
a wedding gift to the most outstanding groom
Mordechai, the son of the Gaon R. Yehuda Assad,
Rabbi of our community, with best wishes, from Ezra
Tzoref of Serdeheli”.
? R. Ezra Tzoref-Goldstein (1806-1880) was one
of the most outstanding students of both the Boruch
Ta’am and the Chasam Sofer. He served as Dayan
and later, as head of the Beth Din in Serdeheli; as
is mentioned in the Responsa of the Chasam Sofer
Choshen Mishpat 169. Author of the sefer Zichron
Tov.
? R. Mordechai Assad was the son of the renowned
R. Yehuda Assad. He was a student of both the Ksav
Sofer and of R. Azriel Hildesheimer.
