R. Sholom Mordechai Ha’Cohen Schwadron
(1835-1911) known as the Ma’Harsham was a
foremost halachic authority of his generation
responding to Halachic queries from across
the world. His main works Shailos U’Teshuvos
Ma’Harsham and Daas Torah are widely studied
sources of practical Jewish law. Additionally he
authored Mishpat Shalom on Chosen Mishpat and
Techeiles Mordechai on the weekly Torah portions.
Primarily a student of R. Yoel Ashkenazy, he
served in various rabbinical positions most notably
Berzhan, after which he is known.
The inscription reads “the sefer is lacking a few
pages, and was given to me as a gift by R. Yaakov
Horowitz. I paid for the binding 12…, Hak'(oton)
Sholom Mordechai Ha’Cohen Ab’ad Berzhan.”
Indeed the sefer is lacking the first five (including
the title page), and the last four pages.
31.5 cm. Fair condition, some foxing and staining
with various small tears. Original binding reinforced
spine.
