Letter of recommendation for a student signed by R. Dovid Leibowitz, Rosh Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yisroel Meir Ha’Cohen (Chofetz Chaim).
R. Dovid Leibowitz (1887-1941), was born in Vilna and studied at the Radin Yeshiva, learning B’Chavrusa with his great uncle the Chofetz Chaim. He was particularly close to The Chofetz Chaim and was involved in the preparation of the final volume of The Mishnah Berurah.
In 1908, R. Dovid moved to the Slabodka Yeshiva becoming one of the closest students of the Alter of Slabodka. After serving as a Rav from 1915-1921, R. Dovid returned to Slabodka where he was a founding member of the famed Kovno Kollel. In 1927, R. Dovid came to the United States to fundraise for the Kollel and was invited to serve as Rosh Yeshiva in Torah Vodaath. In 1933, he left Torah Vodaath and established Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yisroel Meir Ha’Cohen (Chofetz Chaim).

ר’ דוד ליבוביץ (תרמ”ז-תש”א, 1887-1941), נולד בוילנא ולמד בישיבת ראדין. זכה ללמוד בחברותא עם דודו- זקנו החפץ חיים. היה מקורב ביותר להחפץ חיים ועזר בכתיבת הכרך האחרון של המשנה ברורה.
בתרס”ח 1908, עבר ר’ דוד לישיבת סלבודקא והיה לאחד התלמידים המקורבים ביותר להסבא מסלבודקא. בין השנים תרע”ה- תרפ”א (1915-1921) כיהן כרב, ואחריהן חזר לסלבודקא. היה ממייסדי כולל קובנא. בשנת תרפ”ז 1927, הגיע ר’ דוד לארצות הברית למטרת גיוס כספים עבור הכולל, ונקרא לכהן כראש ישיבה בישיבת תורה ודעת. בתרצ”ג 1933 עזב את ישיבת תורה ודעת והקים את ישיבת רבינו ישראל מאיר הכהן (חפץ חיים).
