R. Yoel Ashkenazi (1884-1970), was a son of R. Boruch Ashkenazi of Zborow, a scion of various great rabbinical families. As a child he immigrated to Eretz Yisroel with his father, where they settled in Tzfas.
He married the daughter of R. Noach Weinberg, leader of the Slonim community in Tiveria. He was known as a distinguished talmid Chochom and was a close Chasid of the Satmar Rav who was his relative.

ר’ יואל אשכנזי (תרמ”ד- תש”ל, 1884-1970), היה בנו של ברוך אשכנזי מזבורוב, צאצא למשפחות רבניות חשובות. בילדותו עלה יחד עם אביו לארץ ישראל והם השתקעו בצפת. נישא לביתו של ר’ נח ווינברג, מנהיג קהילת סלאנים בטבריה. נודע כתלמיד חכם עצום והיה חסיד מקורב לאדמו”ר מסאטמר, אשר היה ממשפחתו הקרובה.
