Autograph letter (postcard) by R. Yeruchum Levovitz to R. Yosef Shub, director of the Va’ad HaYeshivos in Vilna, who invited R. Yeruchum to attend a conference of Roshei Yeshiva with the purpose of bolstering the fundraising on behalf the Va’ad.
R. Yeruchum writes of the difficulties in leaving the Mir Yeshiva during the month of Elul that “he surely understands that it is difficult for me to leave the Tzibur” He therefore suggests a different way of enhancing the fundraising. R. Yeruchum concludes the letter with blessings for a good year, “his good friend, who seeks his wellbeing, blesses him with a good inscription and sealing in the Book of Complete Tzadikim, immediately for a good and sweet life, a year of serenity and peace… Y. Levovitz”.
R. Yeruchum Levovitz (1873-1936), learned in the great Yeshivas of Kelm and Slabodka. Additionally, he was of a Talmid of the Chofetz Chaim. As Mashgiach in Yeshivas Mir, he was considered the most eminent of the Mussar personalities during the period between the two World Wars. Held in awe by his students, his Mussar discourses were attended by hundreds, and his every thought was treated with great reverence.

מכתב אוטוגרפי (גלויה) שכתב ר’ ירוחם ליבוביץ לר’ יוסף שוב, יו”ר ועד הישיבות בווילנא, אשר הזמין את ר’ ירוחם להשתתף בכנס של ראשי הישיבות שנועד לחזק את גיוס הכספים למען הוועד.
ר’ ירוחם כותב על הקושי שבעזיבת ישיבת מיר באמצע חודש אלול- “בטח מובן לו כי קשה לפני לע”ע [לעת עתה] לעזוב את הרבים הקדוש…”, לכן הוא מציע שיטה אחרת לגיוס הכספים. הוא מסיים את המכתב בברכות לשנה החדשה, “ידידו עוז דו”ש [דורש שלומו], מברכו בכוח”ט בסשצ”ג [בכתיבה וחתימה טובה בספרן של צדיקים גמורים] לאלתר לחיים טובים ומתוקים, שנת מנוחה שלמה ושלום השקט… י’ ליוואוויץ”.
ר’ ירוחם ליוואוויץ (תרל”ג – תרצ”ו, 1873-1936), “המשגיח”, למד בישיבות קלם וסלבודקא המעטירות. כמו כן היה גם תלמיד של החפץ חיים. נחשב לאחד מאנשי המוסר המפורסמים ביותר בתקופה שבין שתי מלחמות העולם. הוא כיהן כמשגיח בישיבת מיר. בשיחות המוסר שלו השתתפו מאות מאזינים, כשכל מחשבה והגות שלו מתקבלים ביראת כבוד.
