Beautiful letter of approbation signed by R. Eliezer Yehuda Finkel for the Sefer Kuntrus HaBiurim of R. Moshe Shmuel Shapiro. He writes that when R. Moshe Shmuel was still a Talmid in Mir he distinguished himself with his brilliance and he developed into a great Talmid Chochom, an expert in Shas and Poskim, Rishonim and Achronim.
R. Eliezer Yehuda Finkel (1879-1965), was a son of R. Nosson Tzvi Finkel, the Alter of Slabodka. In 1903, he married the daughter of R. Elya Boruch Kamai whom he succeeded as Rosh Yeshiva in the Mirrer Yeshiva. At the onset of WWII, R. Eliezer Yehuda traveled to Eretz Yisroel in an attempt to obtain visas for his students with the intention of relocating the yeshiva to Yerusholayim, but these plans were interrupted by the upheavals of the war. In 1944, he opened a branch of the yeshiva in Yerusholayim which today has grown to be the largest yeshiva in the world.
R. Moshe Shmuel Shapiro (1917-2006), was born in Minsk to R. Aryeh, son of R. Refoel Shapiro of Volozhin. He studied under R. Elchonon Wasserman in Baranovitch and in the Mirrer Yeshiva and was also a close Talmid of his cousin the Brisker Rov. Following his immigration to Eretz Yisroel, he co-founded Yeshivas Be’er Yaakov and was one of the Yeshiva world’s most eminent Roshei Yeshiva. In that capacity he educated generations of distinguished talmidim and was renowned for his penetrating shiurim and Seforim.

מכתב הסכמה יפיפה עם חתימתו של ר’ אליעזר יהודה פינקל, לספר קונטרס הביאורים לר’ משה שמואל שפירא. הוא כותב כי עוד כאשר היה ר’ משה שמואל עדיין תלמיד בישיבת מיר, התפרסם בהצטיינותו, צמח והיה לתלמיד חכם עצום, בקי בש”ס ובפוסקים, ראשונים ואחרונים.
ר’ אליעזר יהודה פינקל (תרל”ט-תשכ”ה 1879-1965) היה בנו של ר’ נתן צבי פינקל (הסבא מסלבודקא). בשנת תרס”ג (1903) הוא נישא לבתו של ר’ אליהו ברוך קמאי, שאת מקומו ירש כראש ישיבת מיר. בראשית מלחמת העולם השנייה, נסע ר’ אליעזר יהודה לארץ ישראל בניסיון להשיג ויזות לתלמידיו מתוך כוונה להעביר את הישיבה לירושלים. אולם, תכניות אלו נגדעו בעקבות מהפכות השואה. בשנת תש”ד (1944) הוא פתח סניף של הישיבה בירושלים. כיום, צמחה ישיבת מיר להיות הישיבה הגדולה ביותר בעולם.
ר’ משה שמואל שפירא (תרע”ז-תשס”ו 1917-2006) נולד במינסק לר’ אריה, בנו של ר’ רפאל שפירא מוולוז’ין. הוא למד אצל ר’ אלחנן וסרמן בברנוביץ’ ובמיר וגם היה תלמיד מקורב לבן דודו, הבריסקר רב. בעקבות עלייתו לארץ ישראל, הוא ייסד את ישיבת באר יעקב והפך לאחד מראשי הישיבות המפורסמים ביותר בעולם הישיבות. הוא חינך דורות של תלמידים דגולים ונודע בזכות שיעוריו וספריו העמוקים.
