Long autograph letter by the Beis Yisroel of Ger regarding sending Yeshiva Bochurim from Chutz L’Aretz to learn in Eretz Yisroel, particularly a young Bochur who requires extra supervision.
R. Yisroel Alter known as the Beis Yisroel (1895-1977), was a son and talmid of R. Avrohom Mordechai Alter of Gur (Imrei Emes). He was known from a young age for his brilliant mind and was renowned as an exceptional Talmid Chochom. Before the Holocaust, his father appointed him to lead a small group of exceptional Chasidim. He managed to escape Nazi occupied Poland together with his father and settled in Yerusholayim, however his wife and children were murdered in Poland.
Following the death of his father in 1948, he was appointed as Gerrer Rebbe and under his leadership the Chassidus grew exponentially, attracting many outstanding youngsters from different backgrounds. Known as a “Scharfer (sharp) Rebbe”, he left a great impression on people from all walks of life who came in contact with him, and was highly respected in all Chasidic circles. He was instrumental in the rebuilding of Yiddishkeit following the Holocaust.

מכתב אוטוגרפי ארוך שכתב הבית ישראל מגור, בעניין שליחת בחורים מחו”ל ללמוד בארץ ישראל, ובעיקר בחור צעיר הנדרש להשגחה מתמדת.
ר’ ישראל אלתר, המכונה הבית ישראל (תרנ”ה- תשל”ז, 1895-1977), היה בנו ותלמידו של ר’ אברהם מרדכי אלתר מגור (האמרי אמת). נודע מגיל צעיר במוחו המבריק והתפרסם כתלמיד חכם עצום. לפני השואה, מינה אותו אביו להנהיג קבוצת חסידים נבחרת. אם כי הוא ואביו הצליחו להימלט מפולין הנאצית ולהשתקע בירושלים, אולם אשתו וילדיו נרצחו בפולין.
אחרי פטירת אביו בתש”ח 1948, נתמנה הוא לאדמו”ר מגור, וחצר החסידות התרחבה מאוד תחת הנהגתו. כונה ה”שארפער רבי” (השנון), והותיר רושם עז על כל סוגי האנשים שבאו אצלו. היה נערץ מאוד בכל החצרות החסידיות. נטל חלק גדול מאוד בהקמת עולם היהדות שאחרי שואה.
