Warm autograph letter by R. Itzele of Ponevezh to the Kehilla of Rubinshik, congratulating them on the appointment of the renowned Gaon R. Eliezer Zev Lanbet as their Rov. He extols at length the greatness of their new Rav and expounds on the benefits the Kehilla will gain from having such a distinguished leader. The letter is indicative of the prestige of a Rabbouns in pre-World War One Lithuania.
R. Yitzchok Yaakov Rabinowitz (1854-1918), was recognized from a young age as an exceptional Illui. He learned under R. Benzion Sternfeld, R. Yeruchum Pearlman “The Minsker Gadol” and was a chavrusa of R. Chaim Brisker. In 1889, he was appointed as a Maggid Shiur in Slabodka. He served as Rav in various Lithuanian communities, most notably Ponevezh, where he established an important Yeshiva. Author of Zecher Yitzchok.

מכתב אוטוגרפי לבבי שכתב ר’ איצלה’ מפוניבז’ לקהילת רובינשיק, בו הוא מברך אותם לרגל מינוי הרב הגאון הנודע ר’ אליעזר זאב לנבט לרבט. הוא מאריך בשבחיו ובגדלותו של הרב החדש ומפרט את התועלות שתפיק הקהילה מהעמדת רב דגול שכזה בראשם.
המכתב מלמד על יוקרת הרבנות בליטא שלפני מלחמת העולם הראשונה.
ר’ יצחק יעקב רבינוביץ (תרי”ד – תרע”ח, 1854-1918) היה מוכר כבר מצעירותו כעילוי מיוחד. מתלמידיו של הרב בן-ציון שטרנפלד ושל הרב ירוחם פרלמן “הגדול ממינסק”, ולמד בחברותא עם הרב חיים מבריסק. בשנת תרמ”ט 1889 מונה למגיד שיעור בישיבת סלבודקה. הוא כיהן כרב בקהילות שונות בליטא, במיוחד בפוניבז’, בה הקים ישיבה חשובה. מחבר ספר “זכר יצחק”.
