Autograph memorandum by the Netziv of Volozhin to the HaTzfirah newspaper concerning the rebuilding of the Volozhin Yeshiva after a fire devastated the Yeshiva and its surroundings.
He begins by writing that despite the great fire that devastated the “Beis Ha’Yeshiva Ha’Kedosha Mikdash HaTorah of more than 80 years”, many have come forward from all throughout the world to assist in the rebuilding. He continues that since it is a Mitzva to create a record and to publicize the names of the donors to the Yeshiva, as mentioned in the Magen Avrohom in the name of the RaShBA, he is publicizing the names of individuals and communities who donated funds, as well as Seforim. He continues that since he has been away from his home for a few days, the names and donations are being written from memory and that he will publicize an updated list with more accurate and additional information later. Notable names mentioned include Chief Rabbi Nathan Adler of London, R. Yisroel Brodsky, R. Dovid Luria and many others.
R. Naftoli Tzvi Yehuda Berlin (1816–1893), was one of the greatest rabbinical figures of his era, Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin and author of many important works. His first wife was the daughter of R. Yitzchok of Volozhin, the son of R. Chaim of Volozhin. His second wife was his niece, a daughter of his brother in law, R. Yechiel Michel Epstein, the author of the Oruch Ha’Shulchon. From his marriage, a son, from his first marriage, R. Chaim Berlin, became the Rav of Moscow and a daughter married R. Refoel Shapiro later Rosh Yeshiva in Volozhin. R. Meir Berlin (later Bar-Ilan) was his son from his second marriage.

תזכיר אוטוגרפי מהנצי”ב מוואלוז’ין לעיתון הצפירה בעניין הקמת ישיבת וואלוז’ין מחדש אחר ששריפה כילתה את הישיבה וסביביתה.
בתחילת היריעה הוא כותב כי למרות השריפה הגדולה שכילתה את “בית הישיבה הקדושה מקדש התורה במשך למעלה מ80 שנה”, הגיעו תורמים רבים מכל רחבי הגלובוס לסייע ולעזור בהקמתה מחדש. הוא מוסיף כי כיוון שמצווה להקים זיכרון ולפרסם את שמות אלו שתרמו למען הישיבה, כפי שמזכיר המגן אברהם בשם הרשב”א, לכן הוא כותב כאן את שמות האישים והקהילות שתרמו כספים או ספרים לישיבה. הוא מציין שהשמות והסכומים נכתבים כעת מהזיכרון כיון שכבר כמה ימים שאינו נמצא בביתו, ושהוא יפרסם רשימה מעודכנת עם נתונים נוספים ומדויקים יותר. שמות ראויים לציון שמופיעים ברשימה- ר’ נתן אדלר הרב הראשי בלונדון, ר’ ישראל ברודסקי, ר’ דוד לוריא ועוד רבים אחרים.
ר’ נפתלי צבי יהודה ברלין הנצי”ב (תקע”ו-תרנ”ג 1816-1893), מגדולי הרבנים בתקופתו, עמד בראש ישיבת וולוז’ין וחיבר כמה ספרים חשובים. היה מפורסם בשקדנותו ועמלו העצום בתורה, וכתב ספרים על מגוון רחב של מקצועות התורה. רעייתו הראשונה הייתה בתו של ר’ יצחק מוולוז’ין, בנו של ר’ חיים מוולוז’ין. רעייתו השנייה הייתה אחייניתו, בתו של ר’ יחיאל מיכל אפשטיין, בעל “ערוך השולחן”. בנו מנישואיו הראשונים, ר’ חיים ברלין, התמנה לרבה של מוסקבה, ובתו נישאה לר’ רפאל שפירא, לימים ראש ישיבת וולוז’ין. בנו מנישואיו השניים היה ר’ מאיר ברלין (לימים בר אילן).
