Autograph letter by R. Naftoli Beinish Wasserman to R. Dovid Potash of Tel Aviv, responding to the latter’s letter on behalf of his father who was away. With interesting financial details about the Baranovitch Yeshiva.
R. Naftoli Wasserman (1914-1941), learned under his father and R. Shimon Shkop and was one of the most well-known Torah students of his time. He later attended the Mir yeshiva, where he was one of the leading bochurim, and lines of younger bochurim would queue to discuss their studies with him. When R. Elchonon would travel overseas on behalf of the Yeshiva, R. Naftali Beinish would substitute by delivering Shiurim and managing the Yeshiva. He married in the summer of 1940, while the Yeshiva was exiled in Lithuania. He was later confined together with his father in the Kovno ghetto, where the R. Elchonon taught him to recite the blessing of Kiddush HaShem according to the text recorded by the SHLoH, as he himself had been taught by the Chofetz Chaim. He was murdered at the “Ninth Fort” together with his young wife on the 9th of Cheshvan 1941. Some of his novella were published in the seforim of his illustrious father, as well as in the Seforim of his close friend R. Shmuel Rozovsky.

מכתב אוטוגרפי מר’ נפתלי בייניש וסרמן לר’ דוד פוטש מתל אביב בתגובה על מכתבו. ר’ נפתלי כותב במקום אביו שנעדר באותה תקופה בשל נסיעה. כולל פרטים פיננסיים מעניינים על ישיבת ברנוביץ.
ר’ נפתלי וסרמן (תרע”ד-תש”א 1914-1941) למד אצל אביו ור’ שמעון שקופ והיה מהמצוינים המפורסמים בדורו. לימים הוא למד בישיבת מיר, שם נודע כאחד הבחורים המובילים ובחורים היו עומדים בתור כדי לדבר אתו בלימוד. כשר’ אלחנן נסע לחו”ל לטובת הישיבה, ר’ נפתלי בייניש היה ממלא את מקומו במסירת שיעורים וניהול הישיבה. הוא התחתן בקיץ של שנת ת”ש (1940) בתקופה שהישיבה גלתה לליטא. בשלב מאוחר יותר הוא נאסר עם אביו בגטו קובנה, שם לימד אותו ר’ אלחנן לברך את ברכת קידוש ה’ לפי הנוסח שכתב השל”ה (הוא למד זאת בעצמו מפי החפץ חיים). הוא נרצח ב”פורט התשיעי” יחד עם אשתו הצעירה בט’ חשון, תש”א (1941). חלק מחידושי התורה שלו ראו אור בספרי אביו הנודע וכן בספרי חברו הקרוב ר’ שמואל רוזובסקי.
