Signed document by the renowned R. Yaakov Tzvi Mecklenburg. Written in Yiddish-Deutsch with instructions that owing to the spread of infectious diseases the women of the community should refrain from attending services at the Synagogue over Yom Kippur and should instead daven at home. This provides a glimpse of R. Mecklenburg’s dedication to his community, as well as Jewish communal life in one of Germany’s most well-known Kehillos during the mid-Nineteenth Century.
R. Yaakov Tzvi Mecklenburg (1785-1865), served as Rav of Konigsberg, and was one of the most influential Rabbonim in Germany in the Nineteenth century, who in addition to his rabbinical duties, battled mightily against the Reform movement. He authored the sefer Ksav V’Kabbolah (after which he is known), as a response to various works by leaders of the Reform movement, who were publishing various irrational “commentaries”. Warmly received, it remains one of the classic commentaries on the Torah.

מסמך חתום מהגאון הנודע ר’ יעקב צבי מקלנבורג. נכתב ביידיש- דויטש עם הוראות כי עקב התפשטות זיהומים ומחלות, מתבקשות הנשים שלא לבוא להתפלל בבית הכנסת ביום כיפור, אלא תתפללנה בביתן. מסמך זה מספק הצצה אל מסירותו של הרב מקלנבורג לקהילה שלו, כמו גם אל חיי הקהילה היהודית באחת הקהילות הידועות ביותר בגרמניה של אמצע המאה התשע עשרה.
ר’ יעקב צבי מקלנבורג (תקמ”ה- תרכ”ה, 1785-1865), שימש כרב בקניגסבורג והיה אחד הרבנים בעלי ההשפעה החזקה ביותר בגרמניה במאה התשע-עשרה. בנוסף לחובותיו הרבניים, נאבק בתוקף נגד התנועה הרפורמית. ספרו הכתב והקבלה נכתב כנגד חיבורים שונים שכתבו ראשי התנועה הרפורמית שפרסמו “פרושים” לא רציונליים, נתקבל באהדה ונשאר אחד הפרושים הנלמדים על התורה.
