With a lengthy introduction by the author who explains that the objective of the sefer is to provide an ethical guide to daily behavior including Torah study; prayer; business ethics; Shabbos and Yom Tov etc.
The author according to his introduction, chose to remain anonymous in order to avoid pride of authorship. Bibliographers however maintain that this was probably also because of his criticism of contemporary rabbis, institutions, and customs. It would seem as the author was from Poland and he occasionally compares the customs of Eastern Europe with those of the Orient.

על פי הקדמת המחבר, הוא בחר להישאר אנונימי כדי להינצל מגאוות יוצרים. אולם, ביבליוגרפים סבורים כי כנראה זה נבע גם עקב ביקורתו על רבנים בני זמנו, מוסדות ומנהגים. נראה כי המחבר הינו מפולין והוא משווה לעיתים בין מנהגי מזרח אירופה למנהגי המזרח.
