R. Chaim HaLevi Soloveitchik known as R. Chaim Brisker (1853-1918), was the founder of the popular ‘Brisker’ approach to Talmud study, a method of highly exacting and analytical study that focuses on precise definitions and categorizations of Jewish law with particular emphasis on the RaMBaM. Following many years as a Magid shiur in the renowned Volozhiner Yeshiva, he succeeded his father (Bais HaLevi) as Rov of Brisk. His primary work was Chidushei Rabbeinu Chaim HaLevi; a volume of insights on the RaMBaM, which was published posthumously by his sons. This sefer is one of the most fundamental works in the Lithuanian school of Yeshivas.

ר’ חיים הלוי סולובייצ’יק, הנודע בכינויו “ר’ חיים בריסקער” (תרי”ג-תרע”ח 1853-1918), היה מייסד דרך הלימוד “בריסק” הפופולרית. מדובר בשיטת לימוד קפדנית ואנליטית מאוד המתמקדת בהגדרות וסיווגים מדויקים בהלכה עם דגש מיוחד על הרמב”ם. לאחר שנים רבות ששימש כר”מ בישיבת וולוז’ין המעטירה, נתמנה למלא את מקום אביו ה”בית הלוי” כרב העיר בריסק. חיבורו העיקרי היה חידושי רבינו חיים הלוי; על הרמב”ם, אשר הוצא לאור על ידי בניו לאחר פטירתו. ספר זה הוא מהחיבורים הבסיסיים ביותר בישיבות הליטאיות.
