R. Yaakov Emden commonly known as the YAaVeTZ was a preeminent Rov in Germany who championed Orthodox Judaism in the face of the influence of the Sabbatean movement. Acclaimed for his extensive knowledge and a prolific author, his seforim are extremely highly regarded. Thirty one of his works were published during his lifetime (this one being the very first) and ten posthumously, whilst others remain in manuscript. A son of the Chacham Tzvi, and a descendant of Elijah Ba’al Shem of Chelm, he lived most of his life in Altona where he earned a living by printing seforim.
On the first page there is a printed diagram of the Mizbeach. Includes the final pages of errata and omissions.

ר’ יעקב עמדין, הידוע בכינויו “יעב”ץ” (תנ”ז-תקל”ו 1697-1776) היה מפורסם כתלמיד חכם מופלג שהגן על היהדות האורתודוכסית מפני השפעת תנועת השבתאות. הידע הנרחב שלו היה לשם דבר, וספריו מוערכים מאוד. שלושים ואחת מספריו הודפסו בחייו (כשזהו הראשון בהם) ועשר הוצאו לאור לאחר פטירתו, בעוד שאחרים נותרו בכתב יד. בנו של החכם צבי וצאצא של אליהו בעל שם מחלם. רוב שנות חייו עברו עליו באלטונה, שם התפרנס מהדפסת ספרים.
