R. Avrohom Yaakov Gershon Lesser (1834-1924), was born in Mir, and received rabbinical ordination from R. Yitzchok Elchanan Spektor, R. Isaac Charif of Slonim and R. Shmuel Avigdor. After serving as Rov in numerous Russian communities, he immigrated to the United States in 1882, where he settled in Chicago, serving as Rav in the Bnei Jacob and Beis HaMidrash HaGadol synagogues as well as establishing the city’s first Talmud Torah. He also served as the first president of the Agudas HaRabanim. In 1897, he moved to Cincinnati, serving as the Rav of three synagogues.

ר’ אברהם יעקב גרשון לעסער (תקצ”ד- תרפ”ד, 1834-1924), נולד במיר וקיבל הסמככה לרבנות מר’ יצחק אלחנן ספקטור, ר’ אייזל חריף מסלונים, ור’ שמואל אביגדור. אחר ששימש ברבנות בכמה קהילות ברוסיה, עקר לארצות הברית בתרמ”ב (1882), וקבע את מושבו בשיקאגו. שימש כרב בית כנסת בני יעקב ובית המדרש הגדול והקים את תלמוד התורה הראשון בעיר. הוא אף שימש כנשיא אגודת ישראל הראשון. בשנת תרנ”ז (1897), עבר לסינסינטי, שם עמד בראש שלושה בתי כנסיות.
