Autograph letter by R. Avraham Duber Kahana Shapiro written to the Agudas Ha’Rabonim (of the USA and Canada) regarding a request he had received from the community in Mexico to help them find Shochtim. He writes that from Lithuania it was difficult for him to assist them, however perhaps from the USA it would be easier.
R. Avraham Duber Kahana Shapira (1870-1943) was the last Rav of Kovno and one of the leading Talmidei Chachomim and rabbinical leaders in Lithuania during the pre-WWII era. He passed away in the Kovno ghetto during the Holocaust and was perhaps the only Rav given a funeral under the watch of the Nazi occupiers.

מכתב אוטוגרפי שכתב ר’ אברהם דובער כהנא שפירא לאגודת הרבנים (של ארצות הברית וקנדה) לגבי פנייה שהתקבלה מהקהילה במקסיקו לעזרה במציאת שוחטים. הוא כתב שהוא מתקשה לעזור להם מליטא, אך אולי מארצות הברית יהיה קל יותר.
ר’ אברהם דובער כהנא שפירא (תר”ל-תש”ג 1870-1943) היה הרב האחרון של קובנה ומבכירי תלמידי החכמים והמנהיגים הרבניים בליטא לפני מלחמת העולם השנייה. הוא נפטר בגטו קובנה בשואה, וככל הנראה היה הרב היחיד שכובד בהלוויה תחת המשטר הנאצי.
