Lengthy autograph letter written on rabbinical letterhead dated 1978. Just one year earlier R. Gifter had established a branch of the Telshe yeshiva in Telz-Stone, leaving R. Boruch Sorotzkin to lead the yeshiva in Cleveland. However, in 1978 R. Sorotzkin fell ill which forced R. Gifter to return to Cleveland to lead the Yeshiva. R. Gifter describes coming back to Cleveland and his satisfaction to find the students studying diligently as well as detailing the extra studies added as a merit for R. Boruch’s recovery.
With mention of the upcoming “21 Tammuz” communal Yartzeit of the Kedoshei Telz and of how the sadistic murderers taunted the Telzer Rav, brutally hitting him on his head with a hammer whilst jeering “now where is your G-D Jew?” to which the Telzer Rav replied “He is my G-D and also Your G-D… and there will come a time when all will recognize Him”.

מכתב אוטוגרפי ארוך כתוב על נייר מכתבים רבני מכתב אוטוגרפי ארוך כתוב על נייר מכתבים רבני מתוארך לתשל”ח (1978). רק שנה קודם לכן, הרב גיפטר הקים סניף של ישיבת טלז בטלז-סטון כאשר ר’ ברוך סורוצקין נותר מאחוריו להנהיג את הישיבה בקליבלנד. אולם, כאשר הרב סורוצקין חלה בשנת תשל”ח (1978), נאלץ הרב גיפטר לחזור לקליבלנד לעמוד בראש הישיבה. הרב גיפטר מתאר את חזרתו לקליבלנד, ואת שביעות רצונו למראה התלמידים הלומדים בהתמדה. כמו כן, הוא מפרט את הלימוד הנוסף לרפואתו של ר’ ברוך.
המכתב מזכיר את כ”א תמוז הקרב – יום היארצייט הכללי לקדושי טלז – ואת הסיפור על הרוצחים הסאדיסטיים שלעגו לרב מטלז בעודם מכים בברוטליות על ראשו בפטיש. “איפה האלוקים שלך עכשיו, יהודי?” הם התגרו בו. הרב מטלז ענה: “הוא אלוקיי והוא גם אלוקיכם… ויגיע עת שכולם יכירו בו “.
