Autograph memorandum certifying that he has examined his own son Shimon on various Talmudic topics and found him proficient. In many Yeshivos there were regular examinations, particularly at the end of a semester. Often when a student wished to move to a different Yeshiva for the following semester he received a signed note attesting to his Talmudic capabilities.
R. Chaim Yosef Pollack (1799-1880) was among the distinguished disciples of the Chasam Sofer, who awarded him the title of “Moreinu” and is mentioned in Teshuvos Chasam Sofer (Chosen Mishpat 15). He served as Rav in Trebitsh where in addition to his rabbinical duties he led a Yeshiva. Author of Mekor Chaim.

ר’ חיים יוסף פאלאק (תקנ”ט-תר”מ 1799-1880) היה מבכירי תלמידיו של החת”ם סופר, אשר הכתירו בתואר “מורנו” והזכירו בתשובות חת”ם סופר (חושן משפט ט”ו). כיהן כרב בעיר טרעביש ובמקביל עמד בראש ישיבה בעיר. מחבר ספר “מקור חיים”
