Landau R. Yechezkel.
Lengthy Judicial ruling by the Bais Din of Prague. Dated the Sixth of Kisleiv 1780, concerning financial arrangements between the litigants, R. Hertz and R. Lipman Weil (Son of the renowned R. Nessanel Weil-Korban Nessanel). On the back of the document, the Noda B’Yehuda who was then Rav of Prague wrote (in Hebrew) “Compromise between the parties the esteemed R. Hertz together with his son and the esteemed R. Lipman Weil”.
R. Yechezkel Landau (1713-1793) was born in Opatow and studied in the great yeshivas of Ludmir and Brody. He served first as a Dayan in Brody and later as a Rav in Yampol. Whilst in Yampol, his reputation preceded him to the renowned Jewish community of Prague who retained him as Rav, where he served until his passing. He was held in awe by his rabbinical contemporaries as well as the masses, and was greatly respected in government circles. World famous as one of the most prominent rabbinical leaders of his generation, he led a great Yeshiva and authored many important works, including his classic halachic responsa Noda B’Yehuda (after which he is known), Dagul Mer’vavah on the Shulchan Aruch and Tzion l’Nefesh Chaya (abbreviated as Tz’lach) on the Talmud.

פסק דין ארוך של בית הדין בפראג. מתוארך לו’ כסלו תק”מ (1780) ועוסק בהסכמים פיננסיים בין בעלי הדין ר’ הערץ ור’ ליפמן וייל (בנו של ר’ נתנאל וייל-“קרבן נתנאל”). בגב המסמך כתב רב העיר פראג, בעל הנודע ביהודה:” ” קומפרמייס בין הצדדים הנעלה הר’ר הירץ נ”י ובנו ובין ה”א מוהר”ר ליפמן ווייל”
ר’ יחזקאל לנדא (תע”ג-תקנ”ג 1713-1793) נולד בעיר אופאטוב ולמד בישיבות לודמיר וברודי. שימש בתחילה כדיין בברודי ולאחר מכן כרב ביאמפול. בעודו ביאמפול שמו הטוב יצא לפניו לקהילת פראג המעטירה שמינתה אותו כרב, ושם המשיך לכהן עד לפטירתו. המון העם ורבני דורו נהגו בו ביראת כבוד ואף חוגי השלטון רחשו לו הערצה רבה. הוא התפרסם בעולם כולו כאחד המנהיגים הרבניים הבולטים בדורו, עמד בראש ישיבה מפורסמת וחיבר ספרים חשובים רבים כולל שו”ת “נודע ביהודה” (אשר על שמו הוא מכונה), “דגול מרבבה” על השולחן ערוך ו”ציון לנפש חיה” (צל”ח) על מסכתות שונות בש”ס
