With signature of R. Yechiel Meir Lipchitz of
Gustinin.
? R. Yechiel Meir Lipchitz known as the “Gutte
Yid of Gustinin” (1816-1888) was a prime student
of R. Mendel of Kotzk, the “Chidushei Ha’Rim”
and R. Avrohom of Tchecenov. Renowned as one
of the greatest Chasidic masters of his generation,
none less than the “Kotzker” who was not wont to
exaggerate, pronounced him as one the generation’s
36 hidden tsaddikim. Particularly legendary for his
fervent saying of Tehillim, through which many
petitioners were said to have been relieved of their
sorrows.
The inscription on the title page reads in Hebrew
“this sefer belongs to me, hak(oton) Yechiel Meir
Lipchitz ben hach'(osid) R. Yaakov Tzvi Zat’zal”.
This is of particular importance as there is much
dispute amongst the researchers of the Chasidic
movement regarding the correct name of the Gutte
Yid’s father. Alfasi in his work Ha’Chasidus page 210
does not bring the name at all, others bring it as R.
Noach Shmuel of Trobin and yet others as R. Yaakov
Tzvi. This inscription puts the matter to rest.
Additional library stamps of R. Yisroel Moshe
Lipchitz, son and successor of the Gutte Yid.
Although the title page is that of the sefer Get
M’Kushar, the sefer is in fact a Divrei Mishpat
(Krotoschin 1835). It is however clear that the
entire sefer belonged to the Gustininer Rebbe as
the library stamp of R. Yisroel Moshe appears both
on the title page and in the middle of the sefer
(page 96). Fine condition. Original binding. Signature
is faded but completely legible.
Extremely scarce.
